The iconic Cyndi Lauper took a final lap of the UK and Europe with her “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour” with PRG entrusted to supply a full 360 package, including lighting, video, rigging and audio, for the arena run.
The show is an eclectic mix of bright colours (her true colours if you will) bringing Laupers iconic image into 2025, designed by Tom Sutherland and the team at DX7 Design; along with Brian Burke of Brian Burke Creative. The main event is a unique 'accordian-style' video screen lined with LED lighting fixtures, made up of 234 ROE Active CB5 video panels and surrounded by Pixel Line IP fixtures. To support the fixtures and create the seamless columns between the panels, PRG adapted the custom metalwork from the US tour as well as fabricating new metalwork to support pixel line “chevrons” that sat on the front of the on-stage lighting trusses.
For media control, the team opted for the Green Hippo Hippotizer Tierra+ media server and grandMA3. The content was a key element of the show, creating stunning scenescapes and high contrast colours and sparkles across the seven metre high screens. Pixel mapped effects ran across the “chevrons”, immersing the audience from every angle of the arena.
Another unique feature were projections onto Cyndi herself. Barco UDX 4K32 Laser Projectors were rigged at Front of House and used to project effects onto Cyndi and her band, bringing the on the screen content to life. For other lighting, Vari-Lite VL3600 were the heavy hitters, providing ambiance for the more intimate parts of the set and drama during transitions, all controlled with a full size GrandMA3.
For audio, the UK collaborated with PRG Germany to deliver a powerful and precise audio experience using an L-Acoustics system. The goal was to ensure Lauper's iconic 80s sound reached audiences with exceptional clarity and impact.
The main PA featured 14x K1 with 4x K2 underhangs, complemented by 12 to 16 K2 cabinets for the side hangs. For the low end, 8x K1SB subwoofers were flown, complemented by 15x KS28 in five cardioid stacks of three on the ground. A selection of X12 and A15 speakers provided fills as needed. All powered by L-Acoustics LA12X in a fully redundant AVB network.
One of the standout features of the L-Acoustics setup was its low-mid control, which allowed the team to shape the SPL profile from the design stage, ensuring smooth, consistent coverage across every venue. Additionally, the cardioid subwoofer configuration helped control low-frequency energy on stage making it a cleaner environment for the musicians and Cyndi Lauper.
The tour played in a variety of venues, from intimate arenas like Łódź Arena in Poland and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro to iconic spaces like London’s O2 Arena and Uber Arena in Berlin. Despite the changing environments, the K1 system maintained Lauper's signature sound, without having to abuse filters to get the midrange balanced throughout the venues.
Cyndi Lauper's crew, familiar with L-Acoustics' reliability, trusted PRG to deliver a top-tier audio experience for this farewell tour.
“It was great to be working with PRG UK and their incredible team again. A huge thank you to the entire production team for their tireless efforts over the past few weeks.” said DX7 Design. “Bringing this beautiful, intricate design to life would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of the crew.”
“Creating the full package for an artist like Cyndi Lauper is an incredible opportunity for us.” Says Account Manager, Kelly Cornfield. “As the sole provider for this tour we were able to provide a seamless 360 service to Cyndi and her production team, meeting all of their production needs with care and precision.”
“We’re very grateful to the team who trusted us to deliver the spectacular show and make this tour one to remember”
